AI Literacy in the Classroom Launches Irish-Language Online Course

AI Literacy in the Classroom and the ADAPT Centre have announced the release of an Irish-language version of its flagship teacher-training Online Course, marking an important step toward supporting Irish-medium education in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, said he was very pleased to announce the availability of the Irish-language course for post-primary teachers.

The new Irish-language course, now available alongside the existing English version, offers post-primary teachers a clear, accessible introduction to artificial intelligence, its core concepts, and its ethical and societal implications. The translation and localisation of the programme ensure that teachers in Gaelcholáistí and Irish-medium classrooms can engage with AI education in their preferred language without compromising quality or depth of learning.

Developed by ADAPT in partnership with Google and supported by Dublin City University, AI Literacy in the Classroom provides educators with:

  • A self-paced online course that explains how AI systems work
  • Guidance on responsible and ethical use of AI in schools
  • Practical examples and discussion prompts suitable for classroom use
  • Resources designed to help teachers foster critical thinking about AI among students

The new Irish-language version strengthens the project’s mission to make AI literacy accessible, inclusive, and relevant for all teachers in Ireland. As AI becomes an integral part of education, work, and everyday life, the availability of bilingual resources ensures that Irish-speaking communities can participate fully and confidently in conversations about AI.

The course is now available here.
