AI Literacy Training for Teachers
Secondary school teachers are invited to join a training initiative that will boost their AI literacy and help them empower their students to use AI critically. The training is developed by ADAPT, the digital content technology research centre funded by Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland. The programme is supported by Google.
AI Literacy in the Classroom will equip you with essential AI knowledge and practical insights to navigate AI in the classroom and guide your students to use AI-powered tools safely and ethically.
Regional Workshops supplemented by Online Learning
At the core of AI Literacy in the Classroom are half-day in-person workshops which have been delivered since November 2024 at locations across Ireland.
The workshops are supplemented by a 90-minutes self-led online course. Teachers can take the online course independent of the workshops, but they will miss out on the valuable collaborative learning opportunities presented by the workshops. The course is available in both English and Irish.
The AI Literacy in the Classroom website also links to relevant AI literacy resources for students and teachers from ADAPT, Oide, Google, and other education leaders.

We recommend that teachers complete Oide’s AI for Schools 1-hour online course, which includes ADAPT’s expert input, before undertaking this training.

Laura Grehan
ADAPT, Dublin City University
Laura Grehan is the Head of Education, Engagement and Societal Impact at ADAPT. A champion of research impact, AI literacy, and inclusive digital innovation, Laura specialises in bridging the gap between cutting-edge academic research and real-world societal transformation. Under Laura’s leadership, ADAPT’s Education and Public Engagement (EPE) programme has received repeated international acclaim as “outstanding”, with flagship #DiscussAI campaign involving 85,000 members of the Irish public to hone critical AI literacy skills and deliberate on the future of AI alongside 170 ADAPT experts.
Dr Jelena Radaković
ADAPT, Dublin City University
Dr Jelena Radaković is Project Lead on ADAPT’s AI Literacy in the Classroom, Cyber Citizens and GreenFutures projects. Building on her background in public affairs and education, Jelena specialises in designing digital literacy curricula for educators and young people, and in stakeholder engagement across schools, academia, industry and policymakers.
Dr Eileen Culloty
ADAPT, Dublin City University
Dr Eileen Culloty is an Associate Professor in DCU School of Communications and deputy director of the DCU Institute for Media, Democracy, and Society. Eileen coordinates the Ireland Hub of the European Digital Media Observatory, an EU network responding to disinformation. She works on EU-funded projects developing digital media literacy for public librarians and teacher education programmes. She is co-chair of Media Literacy Ireland and a member of the steering group informing the implementation of Ireland’s National Counter Disinformation Strategy.
Dr Michał Wieczorek
ADAPT, University College Dublin
Dr Michał Wieczorek is an Ad Astra Fellow – Assistant Professor in the School of Education at University College Dublin. As a philosopher, he studies how new technologies impact the values, goals and practices of education. He has expertise in applied ethics, philosophy of education, philosophy of technology and anticipatory research, and he specialises in the thought of John Dewey. He is a member of Cyberwise, UCD Centre for Cyber Resilience Education.
Dr Eamon Costello
Dublin City University
Dr Eamon Costello is an Associate professor of Digital Learning at Dublin City University, president of the Irish Learning Technology Association and an accomplished teacher, researcher and public speaker. Eamon is deeply curious about how we learn in different environments. He is also concerned with how we actively shape our world so that we can have better and more humane places in which to think, work, live and learn. Eamon has taught and researched a wide range of topics in the places where people and technology mingle.
